Repair to Gas Heater
One of the recently installed gas heaters was now inoperable. The Clerk reported that she was in communication with Gasworks, who had installed the heater, it was under guarantee and they would be visiting the Chapel shortly to repair the heater.
Possible Water Supply
Following a response from the Forestry Commission indicating that they had no objection in principle to water being laid on from the cricket pavilion to the cemetery, two estimates had been obtained as follows:
Hampshire Farm Water Services Ltd |
£2,334.16 + VAT |
G Farwell Ltd |
£2,550.00 + VAT |
RESOLVED: That as this item had not been included in the budget permission would be sought from the Parish Council and in the meantime the Clerk would make further enquiries from the Forestry Commission.
Chapel Lighting
RESOLVED: To hold this matter in abeyance for the time being.
Grass Cutting – 3rd Cut
Having walked around the Cemetery the Committee agreed that, following an early second grass cut, the Cemetery was now looking tidy. It was noted that arrangements had been made with Lyndhurst Landscaping to undertake a third grass cut in September, timing at the discretion of the Cemetery Committee Chairman and Clerk, and that this work could be undertaken within the budget allowed for grass cutting work.
Cemetery Gates
It was noted that the new cemetery gates had now been installed and were a great improvement.
Decision RE Letter from Mrs P Gardner
A letter had been received from Mrs Gardner whose mother, Mrs Margaret Piggott, had been buried next to the grave of her parents (1816/5). Mrs Piggott had thought she would be buried in her parents’ grave but this had not proved possible.
Mrs Gardner was now asking permission to extend the original grave to double width and install a kerb set around the entire double width plot with a headstone in the middle. Difficulty arose because new kerb sets were not allowed in the cemetery.
RESOLVED: To hold the matter in abeyance until the grave in question was located and viewed by the Committee.
War Memorial Maintenance
The Committee had viewed the work recently undertaken on the memorial and the opinion was that it now looked very satisfactory. It was noted that the Clerk had recently received a verbal complaint about the condition of the memorial from Mr and Mrs Chilcott.
RESOLVED: That the Council’s Chairman write a letter to Mr and Mrs Chilcott stating that the Committee felt the memorial was in good order.
Bracken Removal
Mr Malcom was now including this item in his maintenance programme.
Cemetery Records
It was noted that an estimate had been received from Datafind at a cost of £1,236.95, for setting up computerised cemetery records. There would, however, be a further cost of £100 per month for hosting, licences, full support and ad hoc maintenance of the internet based software.
RESOLVED: That the Clerk explore other possibilities.
Any Other Business:
In the absence of any other business the Chairman thanked those present for attending and closed the meeting.
