370 Apologies for Absence
Apologies for absence were received from Mr M Abbott and Mr J Charlesworth. The Chairman welcomed back Mr D Newport.
371 Minutes
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of the Council held on 14 December 2004 , having been circulated, be signed by the Chairman as a correct record.
372 Matters Arising from the Minutes
- Finance and General Purposes Committee Meeting – The Chairman asked that the dates for budget requirements be changed to 2005/06.
- National Park – The Clerk was asked to write to Clive Maton, Denny Lodge Parish Council, stating that this Parish Council were aware that he was now our elected representative to the National Park and the Parish Council would be directing any matters that required his assistance through him.
Mr Rollé said he had written to Margaret Beckett and Brian Giles, Chairman of NFALC regarding his dissatisfaction with the voting procedure for National Park representatives.
- Annual Parish Meeting – The Chairman reminded Committee Chairmen that they should have their reports ready for presentation at the Annual meeting.
373 Minutes of Committee Meetings
The minutes of the following Committee meetings held since the date of the last Council meeting were presented as follows:
- Additional Cemetery Committee Meeting (14 December 2004)
- Planning Committee Meeting (21 December)
374 Reports from Representatives of Outside Bodies
Mrs Wyeth stated that she had now received a letter of thanks from the Head Teacher of Lyndhurst Infant School regarding the £500 grant made towards the cost of a covered sandpit for the children.
The Chairman reported that the Christmas lights had now been taken down and it was agreed that the improvements had proved very satisfactory.
RESOLVED: That a letter of appreciation, together with a grant application form, be sent to the Village Lights Committee.
375 Correspondence
- Newsletter from Sane Planning in the South East.
- Letter from Hampshire County Council Highways Department regarding renewal of licence to cultivate highway land at Southampton Road .
- Application for the renewal of a public entertainment licence at Lyndhurst Park Hotel.
- Copy letter regarding key to cemetery gate given to Mr P Brunsdon to enable disabled access.
- Faults register. This will be sent monthly to Hampshire County Council Highways Department.
- Email from Mr John Sorrell, New Forest Transport Strategy Officer asking for information regarding ownership of bus shelters within the parish and asking for views regarding information boards being placed in the bus shelters.
376 Website
The website was proving successful and new material was being added all the time. Outside organisations were beginning to ask if they could make contributions to the new site. Mr Rollé felt it would be appropriate to include material such as historical articles from Mr Roy Jackman.

379 Items for Discussion at the Next Meeting

380 Rumour Corner
The Chairman stated that New Forest District Council are intending to amend the car parking order so that it covers Sundays and Bank Holidays all year round in all shoppers car parks.
Mr Alexander reported that he had now mended the new notice board that had been situated at Silver Street , Emery Down. The Chairman, on behalf of the Parish Council, thanked Mr Alexander for his excellent handiwork.
Mr Alexander said that a lorry had damaged the Parish Council daffodils on Goose Green.
RESOLVED: That the Clerk request remedial action from the Highway Authority.
Mr Wilding felt that Gales Green was also becoming churned up by motorists driving across it.
RESOLVED: That this item be added to the Agenda for the February meeting and the Annual Parish Meeting.
Mrs Butcher reported that as there were no longer Parish Council representatives appointed as school governors she was no longer the minor authority governor at Lyndhurst Infant School . On behalf of the Parish Council, the Chairman thanked Mrs Butcher for all the work she had undertaken over the years.
Mrs Butcher felt that the pavements around Goose Green were in a deteriorated condition and it was agreed that all the pavements within the village boundaries were in a similar state.
381 County Councillor ’s Report
Mr Kendal reported that the County Council had been allocated £530,000 for school travel plans from the Government.
Later in the week the Partnership for South Hampshire would be meeting again. Under discussion would be the need, or otherwise, for any additional housing over that agreed in the previous plan. A 20% increase would mean 60,000 additional homes in the next decade.
With regard to school governors, most schools had retained their former Parish Council governor voluntarily. There are awards for long serving governors.
The County Council have improved the position of foster parents.
