MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CEMETERY COMMITTEE HELD AT 45 THE MEADOWS, LYNDHURST ON

WEDNESDAY 8 OCTOBER 2007 AT 7.00 PM

PRESENT Mr P Boyes (Chairman),
Mr G Bisson and Mrs A Butcher.

Mrs M Weston – Clerk to the Council.
DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST None
APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE An apology for absence was received from Mr E Gailor.
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS
MEETINGS
The Minutes of the meetings held on 15 June and 10 July 2007 were approved and signed.
MATTERS ARISING None.
MAINTENANCE – CHAPEL AND CEMETERY GROUNDS

Mr Boyes reported on recent work that had been undertaken at the Cemetery as follows:

 

  • Interior of the Chapel had been painted.
  • Two large rhododendrons had been cleared.
  • A programme of work had been agreed with the new maintenance contractor.
  • Water tanks had been cleaned and painted.
  • Both perimeter gates and the Chapel gates had been painted.
  • War memorial grass had been cut and the perimeter fencing repainted.

Mr Boyes also reported that the lych gate cross needed painting and the chapel pews needed to be stained.

 

RESOLVED:  That the cross be painted white and the pews be stained when time permitted.

MEMORIAL STONES – OWNERS’ OBLIGATIONS

It was reported that, due to recent new recommendations, a more stringent check was now being made on all memorial stones.  It was also noted that memorial stones were entirely the responsibility of the owners and that the Parish Council were not liable for their safety.

 

RESOLVED:  That the Clerk prepare a pro forma to be sent out with all permissions.

BUDGET 2008/09 RESOLVED:  That the Cemetery budget for the financial year 2008/09 be submitted as follows:

(a) Use of Chapel

 

RESOLVED:  To add details/photographs of the Chapel to the website and to send the same details to all funeral directors in order to promote use of the Chapel.

 

(b)  Grasscutting

 

RESOLVED:  That Lyndhurst Landscaping be asked to undertake a further grass cut at the end of October.  This action was necessary due to prevailing weather conditions extending the growing season in 2007.

 

In the absence of any other business the Chairman thanked those present for attending and closed the meeting.
