Minutes of the meeting of the Amenities Committee held at Ginkoes, Pikes Hill Avenue, Lyndhurst on

Wednesday 23rd April 2008 at 7:15 p.m.

Present:

Mr F Alexander (Chairman), Mr G Bisson., Mr M Bőckle, Mr P Boyes, and Mrs P Wyeth

Clerk to the Council:

Mrs M H Weston

Apologies for Absence

Mr J Charlesworth

Minutes of Previous Meeting

The Chairman read the Minutes of the Committee meeting held on the 16 October 2007.

RESOLVED:  That the minutes be confirmed and signed as an accurate record.

Matters Arising

(a) Bulb Planting

Mr Bőckle enquired if any progress could be made regarding planting some bulbs at Clayhill and outlined a possible location.

RESOLVED:  That Mr Alexander look at this location and report back.

(b) Great Mead

It was reported that whilst Mr Alexander and the Clerk had signed the document from HCC no further news had been forthcoming on the handover date for the land.  Consideration would have to be given to grasscutting, etc, and cost implications, in due course.

Bus Shelter Replacement

It was noted that the bus shelter on the A337 adjacent to the Police Station had been damaged beyond repair in a road traffic accident.  It was considered that a wooden bus shelter would be more appropriate for a village within the New Forest National Park and prices had been obtained by Mr Alexander.  It was thought that a bus shelter not quite so deep as that at Lyndhurst Park Hotel would be the preferred option.

RESOLVED:  That Mr Alexander and the Clerk deal with the insurance claim through the Parish Council insurers and that further details be obtained regarding possible replacement bus shelters.  Hampshire County Council Highways Department would be consulted and the Forestry Commission would be asked if they manufactured bus shelters.

Dog bins

Discussion took place regarding the present position of the dog bins, possible moving of the bin at Beechen Lane and whether it was necessary to provide another bin at Racecourse View following a request from a local resident.  It was noted that the bin in Beechen Lane was not operating satisfactorily and could not be emptied.  NFDC had informed the Clerk that the problem would be rectified.

RESOLVED:  That Mr Bőckle sample local opinion to ascertain whether they would like the bin in Beechen Lane moved closer to the Forest.  It was not considered necessary to place a further bin in Racecourse View.

Daffodils

RESOLVED:  That more bulbs would be planted in Autumn 2008, after looking at comparison prices.  The Clerk would ask James Malcom for a quotation for planting 80kg of bulbs and consideration would be given to asking the Probation Service to carry out the planting using unpaid workers in the community.

Bond/Maynard Memorial Seat

The seat near the Court House Tearooms had been refurbished and was considered to be a good job.

RESOLVED:  That the Clerk enquire whether the Village Decorating Committee intended to undertake remedial action on the seat near Knightwood Avenue as it was considered that this was now in a poor state of repair.

Handyman Ad

Discussion took place concerning this matter.

RESOLVED:  That following wording of a suitable advertisement this be placed in the Community Centre What’s On to ascertain what kind of response the Parish Council could expect.  Applications would be sent in confidence to the Clerk.

Seat and Bus Shelter Maintenance and Inspection

RESOLVED:  Mr Boyes to ask a suitable contractor to undertake the necessary work on seats this year, providing similar work to be undertaken shortly on seats in the Cemetery proved satisfactory.

Any Other Business

Mr Bőckle asked if it would be possible to have dedicated, maintained seats as several existing seats were in need of replacement.

RESOLVED:  That this item be added to the next Clerk’s Corner in What’s On to gauge interest.

In the absence of any other business the Mr Alexander thanked those present for attending and closed the meeting.
