Lyndhurst Parish Council’s bid for an eastern bypass to
alleviate the acute traffic problems and the air pollution* suffered
by the village has reached an important stage.
Presentations have already been made and reports submitted to
Hampshire County Council (twice), English Nature, the Verderers
and the National Park Authority and this process is ongoing.
The Parish Council’s recommended route is now under consideration
along with other possibilities, by the New Forest Transport Strategy
Group of Hampshire County Council.
Their proposed solutions
are expected, along with a consultation exercise, in the spring
of 2006.
In every poll, and at every meeting, where this issue has been
aired over the last 25 years, a large majority of the local residents
have supported bypass solutions which do not divide the village.
They
will be hoping that Lyndhurst Parish Council’s recommended
route will be endorsed by Hampshire County Council and other
bodies. |
