Hello,

This period has probably been the quietest I can remember. No burglaries of any type or vehicle crimes in the surrounding streets or car parks and no thefts reported.

There have been several reports of annoying door to door salesmen in the surrounding areas – the usual ‘buy your electric etc from us and we’ll save you money’.

Please be aware of any door to door salesmen as some can use it as a ruse to check out the houses for potential burglaries.

There is a current operation with Hants Police highlighting distraction burglaries which nearly always target the elderly.

This will involve two or more persons who will have some excuse to get into your house i.e. - person from the Water Board ‘checking the taps’ or similar.

Whilst one is taking the attention of the householder, the other is robbing them of their jewellery and valuables.

Whilst this is quite rare in Lyndhurst, we have had them so just be aware of the problem.

So….. as I keep on about, don’t let anyone in your house that you don’t know or want in there. Don’t be fooled - ID cards are easily made up or bought from the internet for just a few quid so don’t completely rely on what you are shown.

Most people would not be able to identify a counterfeit card anyway.

The Pub Watch scheme has now started, although in its infancy, and has a few points yet to be sorted out.

Posters are now up at the local pubs and I am awaiting a few more to clarify the ‘Barred from one, Barred from all’ scheme with details of all pubs involved.

Names of those barred will be passed between Landlords and added to a list that all Pubs will have displayed to staff.

I will also be requesting that anyone convicted of an offence involving a licensed premises in Lyndhurst will be given an exclusion order which will effectively be a Court Order barring that person from that pub or a number of pubs for a particular time. Breach of this is a serious offence and is likely to result in arrest and prosecution.

I am running a Police Surgery / drop in at the Community Centre roughly once a month and each date will be advertised on the outside notice board of the Community Centre and would be happy to see you for any queries etc.
