Hello,

Totton /Lyndhurst Police responded to a total of 46 incidents for the month, in my beat area. Most incidents were not of a very serious criminal behaviour, but there are some patterns which residents should be aware of.

Thankfully there were no dwelling or non dwelling burglaries in the month. For info, of these incidents eight were Road Traffic Accidents, six were rural car park vehicle thefts and seven were incidents at the Police Station.

So to put this in perspective, of the 46 incidents, only 10 were crimes relevant to the area. This is out of almost a month. So overall, a positive note.

As ever you are less likely to be the target of a burglary if you take basic security precautions such as closing and locking your windows when you go out. Take special care to make sure that your house is fully secure when you go on holiday.

We have had to leave advice for some of households because windows were left insecure whilst they are away. Don’t make it easy for them.

There has been a mini series of a clear attempt thefts of cars parked overnight on 6th to 7th September. It’s a fair bet that this was the same person (s) responsible for them all and I have a pretty good idea who it was. If anyone has any information then please contact me on 0845 045 45 45 or call anonymously Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Cycle thefts are an issue that remains constant throughout the year. If you have a pedal cycle or motorcycle please take a moment to note the frame number somewhere so that you can provide quality information to the Police in case someone steals your property.

Cycles usually have the frame number stamped into the metal underside of the crank (where the pedals are).

Motorcycles often have the serial number printed into the headrace - the section above the forks. These numbers are unique to the bike, and combined with a basic description of the bike would mean that there is a much higher likelihood that we could reunite you with your stolen property if it was later recovered by the Police.

There are also UV serial number marking kits that can be collected from your local Police station to help you mark your property to prevent theft and assist detection of offenders should you become the victim of theft.

I have been on restricted duties for several months for a medical complaint but hope to know my return date within the next month. Details of the next Police Surgery/drop in at the Community Centre should be in the ‘Whats On’ Community Centre guide or check the outside notice board of the Community Centre.
