There were 58 reported incidents for the Lyndhurst area this month which is a slight increase on last months, however please be aware that in some cases more than one person may report the same incident.
This also includes reports of missing persons, lost/found property, suspicious persons, sudden deaths and incidents that occur at Lyndhurst Police Station. Crime still remains very low in this locality.
Burglary
There were 3 dwelling burglaries this month:
A garage attached to a home in Princes Crescent was broken into and 4 cycles were stolen at the beginning of the month. This follows a spate of cycle thefts at the end of April in The Meadows.
On 4/5/07 a cycle was stolen from a garage in Fir Close.
A home was entered in Gosport Lane on 7/5/07, however it is not believed anything was taken, however on 11/5/07 jewellery was taken from a home broken into in Empress Road.
On 12/5/07 an incident occurred at Coxlease School whereby a shed was broken into and motorbikes taken. Two youths have been detained and the investigation is ongoing.
Theft From Unattended Motor Vehicles
A car was broken into overnight of 21/5/07 in Shrubbs Hill Gardens where CDs and other items were stolen from the glovebox.

None reported.
Theft
Five thefts occurred this month.
On 6/5/07 a woman placed her handbag beside her at the James Hill car park in Emery Down when she sat down for a rest and two males appeared from behind her and snatched it. No violence was used, however she was very shaken up.
It was discovered on 11/5/07 that a horse has been stolen from the Pikes Hill/Broughton Road area in open forest. Previously this horse has been found elsewhere.
On 14/5/07 a garage in a block was broken into in Cedar Mount, Lyndhurst and a cycle taken.
On 22/5/07 a case of beer was stolen from Budgens Store by a known male. This case is currently being investigated.
It is believed that a small quantity of jewellery has been stolen from Northerwood House at Emergy Down – not known when this occurred.
Criminal Damage
There have been a total of 2 criminal damages this month:
On 10/5/07, items were thrown out of a flat above the Post Office in the High Street causing damage to properties below. A male has admitted responsibility for this and had this offence “taken into consideration” at court.
On 26/5/07 it was discovered that a car parked in Broughton Road had had it’s wing mirror damaged by unknown method.
Rowdy Behaviour/Nuisance
It was reported that a male and female were trying shop door handles in the High Street on the evening of 6/5/07. Police attended – the persons had left, however nothing untoward was found and no shops reported any crimes relating to it.
A drunk male was trying to gain entry to The Mill House in Romsey Road on 19/5/07 and was refused. He went on his way with no further problems.
It was believed that youths with spray cans were about to spray the toilets in the High Street car park on 20/5/07, however police attended and no trace of any spray painting could be found.
It is also believed that youths had been playing and/or skate boarding in the grounds of Fenwick Hospital on 22/5/07 as evidence of a skate ramp had been found.
Noise coming from a vehicle in a layby near to Foldsgate Close was reported on 25/5/07.
I have also been made aware recently that there is evidence that persons are drinking alcohol in the evenings at Coopers Yard, behind the High Street.
Traffic
The number of traffic incidents has increased this month mainly due to the fact that Chapel Lane is a Safety Camera Route whereby traffic police conduct regular speed checks in this area.
A number of offenders have been reported for speeding offences and/or failing to attend a Road Safety Briefing.
On 7/5/07, cars were reported as driving at speed and wheel spinning at the Bolton’s Bench car park.
On 14/5/07 a male who was disqualified from driving at the Magistrates Court was arrested after driving his vehicle away from the court!
There were 5 minor road traffic crashes including a male who had become ill at the wheel of a lorry.
Assaults
There were a total of 2 reported assaults this month, both of a domestic nature. Arrests were made on both occasions.
