By the time What’s On pops through your letterboxes the Parish Council will have “launched” the pirate ship in Coles Mead Recreation Ground but at the time of writing it has yet to sail into view.
The next few weeks will be a little fraught for me as I always worry as to whether everything that is supposed to happen will fall into place and whether or not the weather will favour us on 30th July.
The launch also sees a visit from NFDC Recreation Roadshow and they are back with us on 13 August from 2.00 to 4.00 pm.
We asked local school children to name the ship and at our Parish Council meeting on 14 July a mixture of councillors, press, Police and public chose the name “Coles Mead Buccaneer”.
The Parish Council has purchased two very smart new picnic tables for the Recreation Ground.
Paul Carter arrived at the Recreation Ground to fix them into the ground for us only to find they were delivered “flat pack” and about twice the size and weight that we had anticipated.
However, I made a quick call to the Forestry Commission with a plea for mercy and they have since been assembled ready for use.
Thanks also to Paul for his work strimming the grass in the Recreation Ground. It looks much tidier now.
At the same time I must thank Robin Mair and his team for the clearance work they have done near the skateboard ramp.
Much appreciated.
Judging has also taken place for our “Best Allotment” competition.
The results will be announced at our Allotment Collection evening on Friday 2 October.
We held an Allotment Committee meeting at the beginning of July and Helen Klaassen was elected as the new Chairman, with Anne Butcher as Vice Chairman.
Anne was previously Chairman of this Committee and has done a wonderful job for a good many years.
I particularly am very grateful for her help and guidance during the time I have been Clerk.
The Parish Council are considering whether or not it would be a good idea to purchase a speed indicator device (SID).
You may have noticed one has been placed in Gosport Lane recently on a temporary basis. Possible sites might be Shrubbs Hill, Clay Hill and Romsey Road where trials have noted that speed limits are being exceeded.
The Parish Council doesn’t meet in August (except for a Planning Committee meeting on the 25th) but this doesn’t mean things grind to a halt.
It will give me time to catch up with all the paperwork for a start so if you do need any information or assistance on matters concerning the Parish Council please contact me —
