Clerk’s Corner - July 2009

This page was last updated on Friday, June 19, 2009

Good news first this month ….

As many of you will know the bus shelter near the Police Station was the “victim” of a road traffic accident last year and, as even the most careful of drivers could not blame the bus shelter, it was the subject of an insurance claim.

After what seems a very long time of negotiations we have finally managed to recoup all the money expended on the new bus shelter which is a great relief to us all.

In the same week I heard that we had received all the grant aid requested from Hampshire County Council and the New Forest National Park Authority towards the costs of the leaflets and mapboard for the village walk.

However, this has been a victim of its own success and we will shortly run out of the 10,000 leaflets on the initial print run.

Hopefully, we shall be successful in securing more funding to help with costs for some more leaflets. We have had excellent feedback both on the leaflet and the walk itself.

Plans for the launch of the new pirate ship in Coles Mead Recreation Ground are in full swing.

THis will take place on Thursday, 30 July at 11.00 am and will be followed by the New Forest District Council Recreation Roadshow. (click here to see the poster)

The launch should provide families in the village (and visitors) with a really excellent day out in the relaxed atmosphere of the Recreation Ground and we hope it will continue to give children pleasure in the years to come. Existing play equipment is being spruced up to compliment the pirate ship.

We hope the children will help us by looking after it all. We have had some vandalism lately but it looks as though, with the help of PC Andy White and PCSO Lisa Quinn, the matter has been addressed.

Many thanks also to Anthony Todd of Greenfingers for all the work he has undertaken for us in the Recreation Ground..

At the June Parish Council meeting we welcomed two representatives from Scotia Gas Networks who came along to tell us about plans for maintenance work to the gas supply for the village.

It seems that this work is imperative but the plans shown to us will mean some road closures whilst work takes place.

The Parish Council have made suggestions to try to find an alternative route and we await the outcome.
