Clerk’s Corner - May 2009

This page was last updated on Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Well the Lyndhurst Parish Circular Walk has been well and truly launched.

To quote our Amenities Committee Chairman, Mark Böckle “God bless Lyndhurst and all who walk round her”.

And walk they did—residents and tourists alike turned out on a lovely Spring Sunday morning (April 19) to take part.

All residents will have received a copy of the leaflet but please tell friends and family that they can obtain copies at the New Forest Centre as well as many pubs, hotels, camp sites, etc around the area as well as here on our website as a PDF File

Please remember you don’t have to walk the entire route in one go—Mark has put in a series of loops to bring you back to base more quickly and to leave something to try another day and there are public houses on the way if you want to “refuel”.

All our sites are looking good at the moment. I must congratulate the allotment holders on their hard work. Hopefully the new fencing will help to keep the deer out and crops will flourish.

One grumble though—please, please, please remember to turn off the taps and disconnect your hose.

Twice recently water has been left running from the taps, possibly all night. We are a metered site which means the cost of these errors to the Parish Council will be a large one.

We will be entering our website www.lyndhurstparishcouncil.org.uk into the Hampshire Association of Local Councils website of the year competition for 2009.

Our website management team TLC-Online say we are ready to have a go so please visit the site and let us have your ideas for improvements.

Now a word of thanks to local resident, Michael Grant. Michael has agreed to undertake the mammoth task of making us a new cemetery map.

The original map is now extremely difficult to read and the work involved has to be meticulous and requires a great deal of patience.

Michael is undertaking the work voluntarily and the Parish Council is extremely grateful to him for his efforts.

We know it will take a long time to complete and can really be regarded as a labour of love.

May sees the start of the Alice in Wonderland programme of events which will be taking place between now and December.

There really is something for everyone and Lyndhurst is lucky to have such a hard working band of volunteers to undertake all the work involved.

Details are on our website so please have a look and get involved.

We have been informed by NFDC that there will be a temporary closure of Chapel Lane from Friday 1 May for a period of ten days between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm whilst highway work takes place.

Local Beat Officer PC Andy White gave his report at the April Parish Council meeting.

Unfortunately, one of the items concerned vandalism in the Cemetery.

Our Cemetery Committee Chairman Paul Boyes arrived at our Chapel one morning during April to find that tiles had been dislodged from the porch roof and smashed.

Closer inspection revealed similar treatment to the roof of our lych gate.

Fortunately for us before it rained and did any more damage Paul was able to undertake remedial work thus saving the Parish Council a good deal of money.
