On 8 November Lyndhurst Parish Council joined the Churches in our village to pay our respects to those who had lost their lives in the service of this country. I think everyone will agree that this was more poignant this year because of the situation in Afghanistan and as the day unfurled I was struck by the fact that this wasn’t only a day for veterans of past wars but for all the young people and their families playing their part in today’s war.
This has spurred the Parish Council on to think how best we can commemorate Remembrance Sunday next year. We would like to see the return of a marching band (or at least a bugler). Does anyone reading this know of someone who might be able to help. If so, no matter how tentative the link, please get in touch with me and I will see what can be done.
Also this month the Chairman, Mark Rollé, and myself visited the NFNPA for a meeting between their officers and representatives from the four “defined local villages” to talk about the Revised Draft New Forest National Park Core Strategy. We have a tight deadline to discuss this matter and formulate our reply. Much has been said and written about dog walking and horse keeping but the future of our village and planning policies is very important to our Councillors and the residents they represent.
Last month I mentioned that we had a few allotments vacant. Some of these have now been taken but we still have a few plots so if you are interested please get in touch. The Allotment Committee will, as promised, be holding a meeting for allotment holders to come along and air their views on Friday 2 February 2010 at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre. If there is sufficient interest these meetings will be held twice a year.
On 18 November Allotment Committee Chairman, Helen Klaassen, Chairman Mark Rollé, and myself met Charlie Keene, representing J & L Sturney, at the allotment gardens in Pikes Hill. This summer, as reported in an earlier What’s On, the Parish Council held a best kept allotment competition which was won by David Webb.

Our Cemetery Committee Chairman, Paul Boyes, is looking for people who might like to help out with some voluntary work. Many of you have commented that the Cemetery is looking really good now and this is largely due to all Paul’s hard work.
However, he could always do with a little voluntary assistance so why not get in touch with him and see how you could help. His telephone number is 023 8028 2188 and I know he would be pleased to hear from you.
We also have a vacancy for a handy person to undertake three hours paid work per week in the Cemetery (payment £45). This is regular work each week and may increase over a period of time. If you are interested in learning more please contact Paul.
This will be my last Clerk’s Corner for 2009. Mark Rollé, our Chairman, will be taking over from me for January and will give you an update regarding our precept request for the financial year April 2010 to March 2011 and how the Parish Council’s portion of your Council Tax will be spent.
For now I wish you all a Happy Christmas and a healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.
