It’s a bit late but Happy New Year to you all ….
You will see from the advertisement elsewhere in What’s On that we have a vacancy for a Parish Councillor. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Ian Clark who left us due to work commitments. Ian was only a Councillor for just over a year but his enthusiasm and dedication made a big impact and he leaves us with some good ideas for the future. Thank you Ian.
One topic that arose at our December meeting was the subject of whether we should adopt one of the red telephone boxes around the parish that are to be relinquished by BT.
We could buy one for £1 but what would we do with it bearing in mind we would still have some upkeep to take care of such as cleaning and dealing with vandalism. Novel ideas were put forward for usage such as a mini art gallery or library or even a meeting place!! None of these are really practical so the Parish Council decided not to take up the offer.
Your Councillors are keen to get an update on what is to happen regarding the temporary signage concerning the bus/taxi/local traffic lane at Shrubbs Hill and I will keep you informed once we have a reply.
Councillor Mark Bockle, who instigated the village walk, is now working on another part of this project and I hope to be able to tell you more about this next month.
The Parish Council has ordered a new seat. This has been made for us by the Forestry Commission and will be positioned near the war memorial. In order to gain permission for the seat we have had to relinquish another seat on the open forest and one near the Cemetery that is now surrounded by undergrowth was chosen.
We will be holding a meeting for our allotment holders on Friday, 5 February 2010. This will give them the opportunity to air their views and hopefully we will be able to give them some answers.
We are all looking forward to seeing the results of all the work that is taking place at the Community Centre. Our first meeting in the newly refurbished centre will be on Tuesday, 9 February at 7.15 pm so please come along. There is an opportunity for public participation at the start of the meeting and visitors always receive a warm welcome.
