Clerk’s Corner - June 2010

This page was last updated on June 11, 2010

Well we’re half way through the calendar year at the end of this month.

However, the Parish Council year runs from May when we see the appointment of our Chairman and Vice Chairman and Councillors have the opportunity to change to other Committees if they wish.

Mark Rollé was unanimously re-appointed as Chairman for the next year and Helen Klaassen was unanimously re-appointed as Vice Chairman.

This means we have no change at the top, so they must be doing a good job.

Last month I asked for your help.

The Parish Council needed to find a number of people who had walked, cycled or ridden on horseback along the track leading from Blackwater to the bottom end of Silver Street.

This is because part of the track had been designated as a bridleway but part had not.

The track forms part of the village walk but is very muddy in places and the Parish Council would like to rectify the situation so it can be thoroughly enjoyed by all.

At the same time we will ask Hampshire County Council to designate it in its entirety as a bridleway.

Well I can honestly say that during the time I have been Clerk I have never received such a good response from residents.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to fill in the form and if there is anyone else out there who would still like to get in touch please contact me and I will drop a form off to you for completion.

Judging by the response we have received our Amenities Committee Chairman, Mark Böckle, had certainly done his research when he requested that particular committee to give consideration to remedial work to the track as it looks as though it is very well used.

Our Allotment Committee Chairman, Helen Klaassen has been very busy recently.

The Committee has resolved to conduct regular monthly inspections, which involves Helen and myself visiting the site and talking to plot holders when necessary.

This is not only to bring the allotments up to a better standard but also gives our tenants the opportunity to make us aware of any problems they may be experiencing.

There are still a few plot holders who are reluctant to give up plots they are not working but on the whole the entire site is looking a lot better than in previous years.

Hopefully everyone will have a good season and bear the “fruits” of their labours.

We do have a waiting list but because we have split several plots into two or even four this means that we should be able to accommodate everyone who would like an allotment garden fairly soon.

If you are contemplating taking on an allotment please get in touch so I can give you any information you require and add your name to our list.

The Cemetery is also looking very good.

Spring saw an abundance of colourful daffodils and a carpet of bluebells.

Paul Boyes, our Cemetery Committee Chairman, spends a lot of time working voluntarily in the Cemetery and for one man undertakes a massive amount of work.

It is now three years since he took over as Cemetery Committee Chairman and the way he has opened things up with clearance work and regular maintenance has been amazing.

We are also grateful to his wife Margaret for supporting Paul in this work.

If you would like to attend our June meeting here is the date for your diary — Tuesday, 8 June at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre.

Members of the public are very welcome to attend.
