Firstly, I have to say that, for me, the work that has taken place at the Community Centre is just brilliant. It far exceeds what I imagined would happen and it is now somewhere our residents can be really proud to call their own.
However, I know the Community Association still need more money, and we all know that when you start these projects they end up costing more than anticipated, so please go along and ask if there is any way you can help or you could “Buy A Brick” for £10.
Congratulations to John Charlesworth and his team.
Our February Parish Council meeting saw a visit from our County Councillor Keith Mans who came to update us. Of course, the subject of potholes was high on the list. HCC have a new “wonder” machine for dealing with the problem and have put a considerable amount of money into their road repair scheme.
Interestingly, we were also told that we can apply to HCC for grit boxes so if you know of any roads around our parish that suffered particularly icy conditions in the bad weather please let me know so that we can prioritise the siting of these boxes. To give credit where it is due whenever I have rung our local contact at Hampshire Highways recently they have turned out to make good the problem.
We have been informed that the bus/taxi lane in Shrubbs Hill Road is to remain in place and that we will be consulted for our views with regard to appropriate signage.
District and Parish Councillor Pat Wyeth has received an update regarding Lyndhurst Air Quality Management indicating the annual mean objective for nitrogen dioxide continues to be exceeded in a number of locations and this situation will be monitored.
Further funding has been secured from DEFRA to complete the air quality modelling for the additional transport scenario in the High Street. Once data is collated working feasibility studies may be undertaken by Hampshire County Council.
The long vehicle detection system has been installed in the High Street to enable the left hand filter into Romsey Road to be used more frequently although it is recognised that there have been problems with queuing traffic on Romsey Road.
The VMS is in operation to advise drivers to use Junction 2 of the M27 if queues build up along Romsey Road although this is really only used during the summer months. It is hoped these measures will help to alleviate the traffic problems.
County Councillor Mans reported that complaints had been received regarding noisy lorries on Southampton Road and to combat this the 30 mph speed limit would be extended from La Pergola to National England’s offices.
Don’t forget that our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 9 March 2010 at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre. Members of the public are very welcome to attend and there is a slot for public participation at the start of the meeting.
