Our meeting on 14 September was a bit like the first day of a new term at school because the Parish Council hadn’t met in August.
Everyone seemed refreshed after the break and we were pleased to welcome Alison Barnes, the new Chief Executive of the New Forest National Park Authority who, accompanied by Steve Avery who is Director of Strategy and Planning, came along to tell us about her first three months in her new job and plans for the future.
Following on there was a lively question and answer session.
I often mention to members of the public that they can come along to our Parish Council meetings and make a presentment.
We were joined in September by three residents from Emery Down who are keen for the Parish Council to buy the redundant BT telephone kiosk in Silver Street.
BT are willing to sell these kiosks to local authorities for £1 and I have been asked to obtain as much information as possible before a final decision is taken.
A marriage blessing took place in our Chapel in September and during October a baby will be christened there. It’s so nice to see our Chapel, which is newly refurbished, in use and the setting of a backdrop of the open forest cannot be beaten.
The Parish Council has been asked to consider where they think there is inappropriate signage around the village.
This is timely as in October we will be welcoming Mr Tim Lawton, from Hampshire County Council Highways Department who is coming along at the request of Councillors who have a number of issues they would like to see addressed.
The subject of the possible closure of the Magistrates Court has again been debated and I have been asked to write another letter to our MP stating that the Parish Council would like to see the Court moved to Southampton.
2012 will see two events nationally—the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic Games. Councillors are keen to see both of these events celebrated at village level.
Again, at parochial level, our Chairman, Mark Rolle, who recently attended the Ashurst and Colbury village fete and was very impressed, has suggested that we try to do something similar in 2011 in Lyndhurst. More on that subject at a later date.
Allotment collection will have taken place by the time you read this column but more of that next month. However, it is worth mentioning that we still have a few allotments available. Please get in touch with me for more details.
Mark Bockle, Amenities Committee Chairman, several Councillors and myself met informally with local residents recently to discuss improvements to the seat and bus shelter opposite the entrance to Beechen Lane.
As a result it was decided to consider refurbishment of the shelter and possibly a new seat.
Urgent plea—We still have no bugler to play at Remembrance Sunday.
Any offers would be very welcome so please get in touch.
The Parish Council meet again on Tuesday, 12 October at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre. Members of the public are very welcome to attend.
