The Parish Council didn’t meet in August, except for the monthly planning committee meeting so this gave me an opportunity to take a breather and to catch up on some of the outstanding items that I either hadn’t had time to tackle or, to be honest, had been putting off.
Hopefully by the time you read this the files will be neat and tidy and all the accounts will be up to date and cross checked.
I have to say that I don’t think I have ever had such a varied job or one I have enjoyed so much.
At the beginning of August we held a Fun Day for local children.
This was the third such occasion in successive years and marked the installation of a new aerial runway.
Unfortunately, since installation there have been a few teething problems which we hope will shortly be sorted out.
Many thanks to Councillors Angela Trend and Anne Butcher for giving their time, expertise and energy on the day—also Anne’s sister Bridget who, together with Anne, provided refreshments and raised some money for the Scouts.
Thanks also to Keith Dumper and his family for providing face painting and a bouncy castle and to Buzzy the Clown, complete with his buzzy bee costume to enhance the “flying theme”.
In the afternoon NFDC provided the Recreation Roadshow and we also had a visit from Fledglings.
A few days before the event we were notified by the Police that the Recreation Ground had again been subjected to vandalism.
Adults had been camping out and there was a large quantity of broken glass, stale food, a tent and the remains of a bonfire.
Thanks to prompt action from the team at NFDC all of the mess was soon cleared up and we could proceed with the event.
You will see from our advertisement elsewhere in the Newsletter that Mark Bockle and the Recreation Committee are asking for members of the public to come along to the Crown Stirrup on Thursday 9 September at 7.00 pm to give their views on the proposal for a new bus shelter and seat near the entrance to the Foxlease.
If this interests you please come along and have your say. You will be very welcome.
The Cemetery Chapel was in use during August.
It is usually a sad occasion when people ask to use our Chapel but it is an ideal place for groups of up to 30 people and looks lovely when it is decked out with flowers and candles.
However, in September we are looking forward to a happy occasion in the Chapel when we welcome a couple who have decided to hold a marriage blessing there. We wish them well for the future.
Allotment collection will take place on Friday 1 October at 7.30 pm in the Community Centre.
This meeting is primarily for allotment holders but if you are thinking of taking on an allotment please come along.
Now for a plea …. Although Remembrance Sunday is still quite a long way off we have to start planning well in advance.
When I became Clerk seven years ago we had a marching band for the procession from St Michael and All Angels Church to the war memorial but they disbanded and for a while we managed to find a bugler to play for us.
However, for the last two years we have had to rely on a CD recording.
So my plea is …. Does anyone play the bugle or do you know of anyone who would be willing to play for us?
Our next Parish Council meeting is on Tuesday, 14 September at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre.
We will be welcoming Alison Barnes, Chief Executive of the New Forest National Park Authority.
Members or the public are welcome to attend and there is a slot at the beginning of our meeting for public participation.
