August at last and no Parish Council meeting this month.
You might think that would mean a rest for everyone but there is still a lot to be getting on with.
We had a very long Parish Council meeting in July and it was well attended by members of the public.
Our public participation section at the start on the meeting saw a presentation from a group of youngsters from the Youth Club.
They had heard “on the village grapevine” that the Parish Council may be planning some improvements in the Recreation Ground for the youth of the village.
This information is quite correct although it is early days yet.
If you are a young person from the age of approximately 12 upwards and would like to get involved look out for more information soon on our noticeboards, in the What’s On newsletter and on our website.
We will need to gain as many views as possible before going ahead with this project.
In the meantime, this year we are focusing on the very young in the Recreation Ground.
A new play area will be introduced containing small bucket swings, a boat that rocks, two springies and a multi task piece of equipment.
The existing small bucket swings will be moved from the play area aimed at a slightly older age group and it will be replaced with a basket/bird’s nest swing.
We are once again planning a fun afternoon and this is scheduled for 10 September. More details next month.
Allotment inspections continue on a monthly basis and judging has now taken place for the best allotment (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and for the best newcomer (also 1st, 2nd and 3rd).
Winners will be announced at our allotment collection evening on Friday 7 October.
The much coveted winner’s plaque will once again be very kindly donated by J & L Sturney, in conjunction with Lockerley Stone.
We are likely to have a few vacant plots in October so if you are interested now is the time to get in touch with me and get your name on the waiting list.
For over a year now we have had the services of Ringwood Pest Control to deal with vermin control in the allotments and although we will never get rid of the little pests entirely I am pleased to report that there has been a really massive improvement in dealing with the problem.
In general allotment holders have been supportive and we must also give special thanks to one local cat in particular!
Thanks must also go to District Councillor Pat Wyeth who announced at the July meeting that she would be giving £250 of her local grant this year to the Parish Council to help pay for the CCTV equipment in the Recreation Ground.
By the time you read this column the CCTV will be in place and it is something we have been forced to do in order to protect the equipment down there.
We also hope it will make everyone visiting the Recreation Ground feel that the area is safe at all times.
This has been a very large financial commitment for us and not one that has been made lightly.
Last month I asked if anyone would be interested in receiving a monthly News Sheet, probably initially distributed by email.
This would not just contain information about the Parish Council, but would be designed so that anyone holding an event could let us know about it well in advance, it could appear on the News Sheet and thus avoid events clashing.
To date I haven’t received one single reply so if you do think it would be a good idea or would use it please get in touch.
Another visitor to our July meeting was Tony Climpson, Employment and Tourism Manager at NFDC who came along to outline the concept of the Love Lyndhurst Campaign.
This is a joint project by NFDC and the Chamber of Trade.
Leaflets and notices will shortly be appearing around the village explaining what this scheme is all about.
Following formal requests from local residents that Parish Council has given support in principle to the request from local residents for pedestrian crossings on Shrubbs Hill Road and Southampton Road.
We had to change the date of our Planning Committee meeting in July so it is worth remembering that if you do want to attend a Committee meeting you should check with me or Planning Committee Chairman Mark Abbott to see if the date has been changed.
The Parish Council meet again on Tuesday, 13 September at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre.
Members of the public are very welcome to attend and there is an opportunity to raise matters during public participation.
Please remember that we do not meet in August
