Our May meeting saw the re-election of our Chairman (Mark Rollé) and Vice Chairman (Helen Klaassen) and Councillors were appointed to various Committees and to represent outside bodies. Full details can be found on our website.
Unfortunately we have had some more vandalism in the Cemetery—this time some young ornamental trees have been damaged and in one case a tree was broken in half.
This has been reported to the Police and a crime number obtained. We know there isn't really anything that can be done as there were no witnesses or evidence but by reporting the incident and gaining a crime number the Police do know that this has happened.
So often we hear that there is little crime in Lyndhurst and, of course, this is true but I would like to ask everyone who notices that any sort of crime has occurred to report it to the Police.
Again, in the Cemetery—a big thank you to all of you who have marked the position on the Wall of Remembrance were your replacement plaque should be erected.
It helps a great deal in avoiding distress for people who take a plaque up to the Cemetery and then find that the position their plaque used to occupy has been taken.
All replacement plaques must be reinstated in their previous position.
From my observations it seems that traffic issues are once again a worrying aspect of Lyndhurst life. The Parish Council will be taking part in a stakeholders meeting this month with Hampshire County Council to discuss the problems Lyndhurst faces with traffic and the Parish Council will then be asking for a separate meeting to discuss this matter further.
There have been quite a few requests for speed limits to be reduced and extended around the village and with this in mind the Police are hoping to introduce a Community Speed Watch campaign shortly.
The seat on Romsey Road, opposite the junction with Wellands Road, has now been replaced as part of an ongoing programme by the Amenities Committee to keep all the bus shelters and public seating around the village in good order.
Allotment inspections have commenced and will be undertaken on a monthly basis throughout the summer and autumn months.
Helen and I were really pleased to be able to tick the "excellent" box so many times in May and look forward to this continuing.
We now need another Councillor.
If you are interested in applying please get in touch with me as soon as possible. I do need a written application but this can be either by letter or email.
However, in the meantime I would be happy to hear from you so please get in touch if you would like to know what being a Parish Councillor entails. Any of our Councillors would also be happy to help and contact details can be found on our website or on the Community Centre noticeboard.
The Parish Council is considering putting together a monthly News Sheet. I know several of the villages around here provide this service to the community.
This would not in any way be something to rival the Community Centre "What's On" but would purely be a double sided A4 information sheet of activities taking place in the parish of Lyndhurst, Emery Down, Bank, Gritnam and Allum Green for the coming month.
There are no plans for it to contain advertising. We might, in the first instance, just make it something that could be emailed to people and see if it grows from that.
The Parish Council meet again on Tuesday, 14 June at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre. Members of the public are very welcome to attend and there is an opportunity to raise matters during public participation.
