In March the Parish Council holds an additional meeting-the Annual Parish Meeting.
There are more details about this elsewhere in "What's On" but please try to come along. In less than two hours you will hear all about what the Parish Council has been doing in the previous year and a look forward to the coming financial year.
All Committee Chairman give their reports, as well as the Chairman of the Council Mark Rollé, County Councillor Keith Mans and District Councillor Pat Wyeth.
There is, as always, an opportunity for public participation in the form of questions on matters appertaining to the Parish Council.
At the February meeting Councillors made some suggestions regarding signage for the bus lane at Shrubbs Hill Road.
The bus/taxi lane is to become permanent but it is hoped there will be a reduction in signage.
We now have a new tree at Great Mead.
The Plane tree commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Lyndhurst Twinning Association and has been donated and planted by the Parish Council.
A seat will be provided around the tree, but more of this at a future date.
At the February meeting the subject of the Government's plans to privatise this country's forests was discussed, with particular emphasis on the New Forest.
The prospect now seems to have abated but I have written, on behalf of the Parish Council, to Caroline Spelman, MP, Secretary of State for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with a copy to our MP Dr Julian Lewis stating that the Parish Council do not believe the New Forest should be sold under any circumstances but should be brought back under local control and made more accountable quoting the protection afforded by the New Forest Acts that might be lost if the New Forest was sold.
There is a need to protect the Forestry Commission and more importantly the Verderers and the Commoners, who are both unique to our region.
Mrs Wyeth has informed us that the planning application proposed for South View, which was refused by the New Forest National Park Authority Planning Committee is to go to appeal.
Unfortunately, Banner Homes have pulled out of their plans for Stag Yard which means we must endure the hoardings even longer and see what develops there.
Traffic problems continue to figure highly on everyone's minds.
At the time of writing Clerk's Corner I am still waiting to hear from Hampshire County Council with regard to the meeting they are to set up for stakeholders to discuss traffic problems and following this we hope to have a meeting between HCC and the Parish Council to consider the ever increasing traffic problems in Lyndhurst.
We do not have any vacancies at our allotments at the present time but that doesn't mean you shouldn't add your name to our waiting list. Plots do become vacant at various times of the year so do get in touch if you would like to try your hand at "grow your own".
The Parish Council meet again on Tuesday, 8 March at 7.15 pm in Lyndhurst Community Centre.
Members of the public are very welcome to attend and there is an opportunity to raise matters during public participation.
Our Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 15 March so please put the date in your diary and come along.
You will be made very welcome.
