“Having the time for your life”
The Lyndhurst and District Community Responders scheme was established in late 2003 with the support and encouragement of the Friends of Lyndhurst Surgery (FOLS) and other local charities.
We have, to date, 14 trained volunteers from the local community and have answered over 100 emergency calls so far throughout the villages of Lyndhurst , Minstead, Bank, Emery Down, Ashhurst and Colbury.
A Community Responder is a volunteer trained to attend emergency calls received by their local Ambulance authority. Our volunteers are given first aid training by the Hampshire Ambulance NHS Trust which consists of two, week day evening sessions and one full Saturday.
The training is designed to equip us with sufficient knowledge to competently carry out procedures that will promote the well-being of the patient until the emergency ambulance arrives, including the use of oxygen and a defibrillator.
Our contribution has proved to be much valued by the community . As with any voluntary project, we are very keen to promote our existence in order to attract more volunteers, either to become trained in first aid, or by helping to raise money to fund the equipment required.
If you, or anyone you know of, would like to have more information, please contact our co-ordinator Mrs. Celia Stanwyck on 023 8081 2332 or look at the website |
