At the recent Lyndhurst Parish Council
AGM, a 2,000 plus petition to reopen the Fenwick Hospital, was
mentioned, as an ongoing issue of concern for many local people.
Julian Lewis, MP for New Forest East presented it to the New
Forest Primary Care Chief Executive, John Richards on 1 April
2005.
As reported in the Echo recently, he had written to the New Forest
PCT saying, "Financial crises come and financial crises
go, but once a hospital is destroyed for short-term financial
reasons, the damage is irreparable." He added: "Any
failure to reopen the hospital and restore its invaluable work
for the local Forest community would spark a massive protest
- a protest to which I would give my whole-hearted support."
His comments follow on from a letter sent to the Primary Care
Trust from Cllr George Bisson, Chairman of Lyndhurst Parish Council,
after the public meeting held to discuss the "temporary
closure" of
Fenwick Hospital in an effort to save money.
Cllr Bisson has to date, received no reply to his letter criticising
the closure of the Fenwick Hospital. Parish Clerk, Margaret Weston
said, "This is very disappointing,
particularly in view of the fact that at the public meeting, held
on 8 February 2005, Tim Moran, Head of Patient Public Involvement
had made a point of asking for comments". |
