Teenagers should sharpen their wits,
find their voice and take part in NFDC's first ever young writers'
competition.
New
Forest District Council has teamed up with Ottakars' book
store in Lymington to ask teenagers from 13 to 19 years to
come up with short stories for the council's 'Write on your
Doorstep' competition.
Writers
are asked to submit stories under one of four headings; The
Curse, The Kiss, The Challenge, The Journey. Entries
should be between 750 and 1000 words, but writers can submit
more than one piece.
Judges
will award a first prize of £100, a second prize of £50
and a third prize of £30 to entries in two age groups:
13-16 and 17-19. Prizes will be awarded in Ottakars'
book vouchers.
Masterpieces will be published on the council's
youth web pages, and the most sparkling story will be published
in the council's community newspaper, Forest News. Winners
will receive their prize from the chairman of NFDC at an
awards ceremony in May.
David
Atwill, head of communications at NFDC, said
there's lots f writing talent just waiting to be discovered.
We want young people in the Forest to dazzle us
with their ideas," he said. "This
is a fabulous competition and a great opportunity for teenagers
in the district to express themselves.
"Last
year, the council's Art 4 U competition produced some wonderful
pieces of work. I am sure this event will again show
the imagination, skills and talents of the young people of
the New Forest."
