More than 1000 children from primary schools across the New Forest are learning new skills to stay safe - thanks to this year's Childsafe Week (20-24 June), organised by New Forest District Council and New Forest Primary Care Trust.
Emergency service teams and local experts have teamed up to provide a mix of practical advice and fun activities to help the children learn how to protect themselves in a variety of dangerous situations. Fire safety, sea rescue, first aid, animal safety and stranger danger are just some of the issues being addressed.
The week long event takes place at Foxlease House in Lyndhurst for 10-11 year olds from 17 primary schools across the forest.
Hampshire Constabulary, HM Coastguard, Hampshire Fire and Rescue, Hampshire Ambulance Service, Hampshire County Council Road Safety and New Forest District Council's Dog Wardens are all sharing their expertise with the children using interactive demonstrations and presentations.
Cllr Maureen Holding, portfolio holder for health and social inclusion at NFDC, welcomed the campaign.
"Childsafe Week is a great opportunity to equip children to deal with the potential dangers of modern life," she said. "It is important we alert children to the dangers that cause accidents and to teach them how to prevent them from happening.
This event is a fun way for children to take on board serious messages and will help them develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes towards personal safety."
