The
annual Planthunters’ Fair at Lyndhurst
on Saturday raised more than £3,600 for a local charity.
The
Fair, at New Forest District Council headquarters, Appletree
Court, attracted almost 1000 people looking for a wide range
of plants, shrubs and garden-related goods including furniture,
pots and plant supports.
A
cheque for £3,650 will go to New Forest Sailability,
the charity chosen by Mike Shand, chairman of New Forest
District Council for 2004/5.
“I’m
absolutely delighted with this total,” said Cllr Shand. “More
people than ever before came through the gates and everyone
had a good day.”
Planthunters’ Fair, a specialist plant sale, started
in 2002, as a one-off fund-raiser for the NFDC chairman’s
charity. That first fair was such a success, it has been
held annually, attracting garden-lovers who know that they
will find plants not always available elsewhere. |
