Twenty top artists are coming together at Exbury Gardens from Monday 10 April to 4 May for a show full of flower power.

The painters and sculptors, many of them Fellows of the prestigious Society of Botanical Artists (SBA), have formed a group, Four Seasons artists, brought together by painter Marianna Kneller.

Marianna, herself an SBA Fellow, is excited about the exhibition, which takes place in the Four Arrows Gallery.

“Several members of the SBA showed their work at Exbury in the recent past and I have managed to get them together with some other artists whose work is highly regarded nationally.

So we should have a show that is all-encompassing. I’m anticipating traditional and contemporary work and a great range of medium and styles,” she said.

The artists include Ruth Baron Ezra, whose exquisite and intricately styled pencil drawings have won wide acclaim, painter Ali Lindley, Bridget Dumper, a sculptor who works in stone, resin, clay wood and aluminium and Richard Tratt, well known for his detailed paintings of English meadowland with their flora and insect life.

“The artists are enthusiastic about this exhibition and many of them have volunteered to be on hand to answer questions, steward the show and give demonstrations during the four weeks of the exhibition,” said Marianna.

The work will be on show just as the Gardens at Exbury are coming into beautiful colour, making a visit a double pleasure. Nicholas de Rothschild, whose family owns Exbury is delighted to play host to the exhibition.

“We are so lucky to have secured this show,” he said “All the exhibitors are wonderful artists, whose work is of world-class standard. The display of wonderful paintings and sculpture just as the Gardens are looking so perfect is a marriage made in heaven.”

Marianna, who has been painting the world-famous Exbury rhododendrons for the last two decades and who has had a book of her work published, will be showing large oil paintings of flowers.

“I’m sure there will be something for every visitor to enjoy,” she said.
