A popular New Forest District Council street cleaner has been rewarded by the council for the excellent standard of his work.
David Cousins, who works in Lyndhurst, was presented with a new state-of-the-art cleaning trolley and a bonus payment by Cllr Pat Wyeth, member for Lyndhurst, last week.
Mr Cousins is employed by New Forest Commercial Services in the cleansing section and is responsible for keeping the streets and car park of Lyndhurst clean and tidy.
Cllr Wyeth said Mr Cousins is a popular face in Lyndhurst and that his commitment to his job is outstanding.
"The residents and traders of Lyndhurst are very pleased with the high and consistent standards that David achieves," she said. "At the council we have received many letters complimenting his work."
Cllr Michael Thierry, portfolio holder for environment, also received complimentary remarks concerning the cleansing of Lyndhurst and after visiting a waste management exhibition where new trolleys were on display asked manager Mike Cash to obtain a trolley for Mr Cousin's use.
"David Cousins is Mr Lyndhurst as far as many people are concerned. He is often seen working in the streets and has a friendly word for everyone. We were very pleased to present him with the new refuse handcart.
It is the Rolls Royce of refuse handcarts, with easily removable sections and special wheels for negotiating curbs, and it is lightweight and durable. We always make sure we buy the best equipment for the job, even when it is the most expensive.
We take our street cleansing seriously and we know that it's important to have the right equipment as well as dedicated staff."
Mr Cousins, who has worked for Commercial Services for 3 years, has just recovered from a serious viral infection of meningitis.
He spent several weeks in hospital during 2005 and in the early stages of the infection lost two stone in weight.
Manager Mike Cash said Mr Cousins was the only employee that he had actually had to ask to reduce his hours.
He frequently exceeded his normal working hours without additional payments and was working long after all his supervisors had gone home.
Mr Cousins has recently moved into a new flat in Hythe and plans to use his bonus to help with the furnishing of the flat. |
