The Lyndhurst by-pass, haulage arrangements in the New Forest and pollution from vehicles were some of the hot topics under discussion at a one-off conference to tackle transportation issues affecting New Forest businesses.
Staged by the New Forest Business Partnership, it included speakers from the Department of Transport, Hampshire County Council and New Forest District Council as well as an expert in alternative fuels.
There were also three separate workshops on parking and traffic issues in town centres, haulage and congestion, and tourism and national park issues.
More than 80 representatives from the business community shared their views on roads, rail, buses and ferries at the conference, held at The Beaulieu Hotel near Lyndhurst.
The chairman of the New Forest Business Partnership, Barry Olorenshaw said:
“What came out of the conference is that there is a lot of interest from the business community on a range of transport issues, particularly roads. We need to continue working with the relevant local authorities and central government to resolve some of the transport challenges in this area for the benefit of companies and the community at large.”
The event was held by the New Forest Business Partnership at The Beaulieu Hotel on 16 November, in partnership with Hampshire County Council, New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council. |
