Police in Lyndhurst are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted while on his way home from work.

The incident occurred sometime between 1.45 and 2am on Friday morning, January 11, near to the A326 underpass close to the junction of Foxhills and Knellers Lane, Ashurst.

The 22-year-old Totton man was pushed from behind by two men.  One then proceeded to search his pockets but he managed to fight off his attackers who made off in the direction of Fletchwood Lane and the A326. Nothing was stolen and the man was able to continue his walk home.

He sustained minor injuries of swelling to the eyebrow area.

It is thought one his attackers may also have sustained minor injuries from a punch to the mouth and may be suffering with minor but noticeable injuries.
The attackers are described as:
  • White
  • Both were wearing hoodies
  • Aged 18-24 years old

The main assailant had short dark hair and was approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Detective Constable Simon Clifford said: “This incident occurred in an isolated area of the New Forest, and it is unlikely there were many people around at that time of the morning.

We would however like to appeal for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious people around at that time or may know something about this incident, particularly in relation to anyone with recent facial injuries.

We would also appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything strange in the area at the time to contact us"

Information should be given by contacting Lyndhurst CID on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
