Fill your Christmas recycling sack

This page was last updated on Monday, November 16, 2009

ChristmasGive the environment a gift this Christmas – recycle as much as possible, including your tree!

New Forest residents are reminded what can go in their clear recycling sacks over the forthcoming Christmas period – and household refuse collection dates have also been announced.

Christmas cards, card, plastic bottles, paper, tins and cans can all be recycled using NFDC’s clear recycling sacks.

Christmas gift wrap cannot be recycled so it shouldn’t be put into the clear sacks.

Glass bottles should be taken to a bottle bank.

• Refuse collection arrangements:

Collection of Christmas household refuse will run as normal from Monday December 21 to Christmas Eve, but there will be no collections from Christmas Day until Tuesday December 29, when normal weekday collections will resume.
Over the New Year period, there will be no collection on January 1st and a Friday collection will be made on Saturday January 2, 2010. Refuse collections will return to normal on Monday January 4.

• Christmas tree recycling:

Forest residents wishing to dispose of their real Christmas trees are urged to use one of the following recycling points, available from Monday January 4 to Sunday January 10:

  • Fordingbridge - A338 slip road car park;
  • New Road car park, Hythe;
  • Crossmead Avenue car park, New Milton;
  • Village car park, Lyndhurst.

• Also, the following household waste recycling centres:

  • Efford – Milford Road, Pennington;
  • Marchwood – Normandy Way;
  • Somerley – Verwood Road, Ringwood Forest.

These centres are open from 8am to 4pm, but closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

• Alternatively, real Christmas trees less than 1.8m high can be left for collection with your household refuse, but will not be recycled.

Environment portfolio holder Councillor Edward Heron said: “We hope that as many residents as possible will help with the recycling drive in the New Forest and follow our guidelines to keep up the good work over the Christmas period.”

For more information, contact NFDC customer services on 01590 646123 or visit newforest.gov.uk to check the recycling and refuse collection dates over the Christmas period.
