July 30 saw the launch of a new pirate ship in Lyndhurst. How was this possible in a New Forest village so far from water?
Easy - Lyndhurst Parish Council have provided local children with a pirate ship at Colesmead Recreation Ground which takes the form of multi-play equipment and was purchased with younger children in mind.
This compliments the play trail purchased last summer for older children and puts the village at the forefront of local recreation grounds when it comes to catering for youngsters.
We were lucky enough to have some good weather for most of the day and some helping hands in the shape of NFDC Recreation Roadshow, HCC Seedlings, NF NPA mobile information stand, Buzzy the clown, who became a pirate for the day and produced some wonderful balloon swords.
There was also face painting and a bouncy castle provided by Caroline and Keith Dumper. Amy from BrockIce “cycled” along with some delicious ice cream.
The ship has been named Colesmead Buccaneers and was chosen as the winning entry from Nathaniel and Tom Bond in a competition organised for local school children.
Nathaniel and Tom were aided by PC Andy White and PCSO Lisa Quinn when it came to “launching” the ship and this signalled a stampede by the waiting youngsters who soon filled the ship – luckily it didn’t sink though!!
So, it’s watch this space for more improvements next year as this looks set to become a regular annual event for our local youngsters. |
