Frightful fun in the New Forest

This page was last updated on October 27, 2009

HalloweenGet on your broomstick and join in some spooktacular fun in the New Forest this Halloween!

Young witches and wizards, ghouls and little devils are all invited to Frights ‘n’ Fun, a hair-raising event for young people at Appletree Court, Lyndhurst, SO43 7PA, on Saturday 31 October from 6 to 8pm.

Are you brave enough to venture through the trees on a spooky walk before you enjoy fun activities in the eerie marquee?

Look out for the live owls from Liberty’s Raptor and Reptile Centre, have a go at apple bobbing, get your face painted, make a gruesome potion with the National Park Authority and watch a real magician cast his spells.

Children are encouraged to come along to the event, hosted by New Forest District Council, in spooky fancy dress and are invited to bring a carved pumpkin – prizes will be awarded for both.

If all this frightful fun gives you an appetite, there will be a delicious BBQ and Halloween refreshments available.

Portfolio holder for leisure, culture and youth matters Cllr Di Brooks said:

“This is a great opportunity for local children to enjoy some fantastic Halloween fun in the New Forest and to find out more about this council and some of the services we provide. I hope to see lots of you there in spooky costumes.”

New Forest District Council hopes the Halloween event will encourage youngsters to participate in an educational activity - information about recycling, health, nature, the democratic process, and community safety will be intertwined with the entertainment on offer.

This is to encourage children to join in an organised Halloween event, rather going from door to door, tricking and treating.

Frights and Fun is suitable for children up to 12 years, Entry is £2 per child and all youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Hampshire police is reminding people to think of the elderly and vulnerable people this Halloween.

  • They advise children and their parents to remember that some householders do not wish to participate in Halloween activities and may feel intimidated by groups of people calling at their doors.

  • If you do not want to be disturbed by trick or treaters this Halloween, download and print out a copy of the Hampshire Constabulary ‘No Trick or Treat’ poster to display by your front door.

This can be found at www.hampshire.police.uk - click on the Halloween link to print out your No Trick or Treat poster
