Rotary Club New Forest supporters put a lot of effort into raising money for Carers Together New Forest and the Fenwick2 Health and Well-being Centre in Lyndhurst.
The members packed supermarket bags, rode horses and cycled their way round the New Forest on their annual Horse and Cycle event in Burley in May and raised £2000 for the two organisations.
The money will be used to purchase a new running machine for the Fenwick2 gym and to provide respite time for carers.
Carers Together New Forest is based at Fenwick2 and has a carers’ resource and information centre on the site.
The Rotary Club’s Immediate Past President Dr Peter Stewart presented a cheque for £2000 to George Dibben, Chairman of the League of Friends of the Fenwick Hospital in the F2 gym last week (Tuesday October 13).
F2 Coordinator Lisa Dillane said she was very grateful for the monies raised.
“Our gym facilitates local health as well as providing the necessary space and equipment for our condition-specific classes run through New Forest District Council,” she said. “A new running machine will help the classes for people with heart problems to operate more effectively and will also allow our personal trainer to expand his circuit classes.
“We also hope to be able to establish further facilities for post-operative and rehabilitation patients in the future. We are very grateful to Rotary Club members for working so hard to provide this equipment and for making these things possible.”
Carers Together New Forest Development and Support Worker Vicky Hamilton Vey said she was very pleased to receive a donation on behalf of carers in the New Forest.
“The gift will be used to provide time away from caring responsibilities for carers in the form of a coach trip out or a well-being day at Fenwick 2, or towards an ongoing project such as a Sing for Your Life club which I am hoping to start in the New Year at Fenwick 2.
For carers these are rare and valuable opportunities to meet other carers, to have some fun and to leave their worries behind.”
Fenwick2 is a not-for-profit social enterprise run by Southampton-based SCA Group and the Fenwick League of Friends.
